About CUPE 402
The Surrey Municipal Employee's Association has been representing public workers in the Fraser Valley since September 6, 1947, when it was certified as local no 6. When a charter was granted by the National Union of Public Employees on August 16, 1950, it became Local 402. Our local sent three delegates to the CUPE founding convention: William Stevens, Delbert Milligan and Verna King - the only woman among BC's seventy representatives.
Currently CUPE 402 has over 2000 full and part time members. A full time President, one hard working office staff person, and permanent offices located in central Surrey. CUPE 402 consists of four sub-locals, 402-01 - White Rock, 402-02 - Libraries and 402-03 Cloverdale Rodeo.
